How Invisalign Transforms Your Smile
Invisalign in Athens, TX, is a popular tooth straightening option among patients of all ages. What people seem to appreciate most about Invisalign is that they can remove the clear aligners when needed and be much more discreet about their orthodontic treatment. However, this method of aligning the teeth requires just as much commitment to attending appointments and good oral hygiene as traditional metal braces.
How Does Invisalign Work?
If you are interested in orthodontic treatment for yourself or your child, the first step is to schedule a consultation at Athens Smiles. One of our dentists will take several X-rays of your teeth and jaws to determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign. Some patients need to have one or more teeth extracted or complete another oral health procedure before they can wear a clear aligner.
Our dentist also takes molds of your teeth and jaw to send to our laboratory. A technician uses the impressions to create a set of customized clear plastic aligners for you. The aligners will be in consecutive order in a case, and you should take the first one out and wear it for around two weeks. At the end of the two weeks, you dispose of the first aligner and wear the second one in the set for two weeks. Repeat the process until you reach the last aligner.
Caring for Your Aligners at Home
You should plan to wear your aligners at all hours of the day and night except when eating or brushing your teeth. Be sure to brush the aligner to remove food stuck inside of it when caring for your oral hygiene. Continue to brush and floss at least twice daily as you did before starting orthodontic treatment.
